This West Hand Monofilaments Aesthesiometer uses the Weinstein Enhanced Sensitivity Test or West, which is an improved version of the Semmes-Weinstein microfilaments alternative used by some aesthesiometers. The monofilaments have textured round tips to assist with ensuring accurate test results.
The West Hand Monofilaments Aesthesiometer employs 5 microfilaments to evaluate the sensitivity of the skin on the hand and to assess the level of involvement of the peripheral nerves. These monofilaments use a color-coded system in which green represents normal, blue represents diminished light touch, pinks represents diminished protective sensation, red represents loss of protective sensation, and orange represents untestable.
